Today's Best of the Web links to the results of a measure passed by the residents of Bolinas, CA, described by BOTW as "some sort of hippie enclave". The text of the resolution is:

Shall the following language constitute a policy of the Bolinas Community Public Utility District? Vote for Bolinas to be a socially acknowledged nature-loving town because to like to drink the water out of the lakes to like to eat the blueberries to like the bears is not hatred to hotels and motor boats. Dakar. Temporary and way to save life, skunks and foxes (airplanes to go over the ocean) and to make it beautiful.

Although this measure is very strange, the strangest word here is the randomly placed word, "Dakar". As you may know, Dakar is the capital of Senegal, a country in Africa, nowhere near Bolinas, CA. It appears to be randomly placed there.

While looking up Dakar on Google, I found the page of the US embassy. There, right on the front page, was a picture of Ambassador Richard Roth presenting a check for the equivalent of $29,516 to Senegal's minister of education, funding the preservation of a collection of West African art. The thing is, it's a giant novelty check.

I want my tax refund in the form of a giant novelty check, now that the US government is in the business of handing them out.
